University Canada West is a contemporary independent university located in the heart of vibrant Vancouver.

Established in 2004, UCW offers a range of career-focused programs including the Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Arts in Business Communication, Associate of Arts and Master of Business Administration. Courses are offered at our downtown Vancouver campus and online too. English Language Requirements

English is the language of instruction at University Canada West. If your first language is not English, you must submit one of the following:

  • Required score on a recognized English proficiency test.
Test Minimum Score for Admission
Academic IELTS 6.5 overall with minimum of 6.0 in the writing band
TOEFL iBT 88 overall with minimum of 20 in each component
PTE Academic 61 overall with minimum score of 60 in writing
CAEL 70 overall with minimum of 60 in each subtest

 

 

 

 

  • Successful completion of a minimum of 30 credits of post-secondary education from a recognized institution where English is the language of instruction and where the school is located in a country where English is an official language.
  • Successful completion of University Canada West’s University Access Program (English preparation courses),
  • Successful completion of other recognized English preparation courses where students have demonstrated English proficiency equivalent to an academic IELTS score of 6.5 or better,
  • Successful completion of BC English 12 or English 12 First Peoples (or equivalent) with a final grade of 65% (C) or better (including the provincial exam if applicable) ) taken in Canada as part of a high school graduation program,
  • Completion of International Baccalaureate English A1/A2 or English Literature and Performance,
  • Successful completion of a 3 credit academic English course with a minimum C grade from a Canadian post-secondary institution. The credits must be eligible to be transferred to University Canada West as transfer credits,
  • Graduation from a secondary school attended for three (3) or more consecutive years of full time education where English was the language of instruction and where the school is located in a country where English is an official language,
  • Graduation from a recognized secondary school attended for four (4) or more consecutive years of full time education where English was the language of instruction but operates in a country where English is not a primary language.

The Admission Committee may require proof of English language proficiency from applicants who attended English language-based education systems if the Committee sees deficiencies in language proficiency when the application package is reviewed.

English language test scores are valid for admission purposes for a maximum of 2 years from the date of the test.

Recognized English Language Schools
If you have successfully completed Academic English preparation courses from a UCW recognized English language school, it may fulfill UCW’s English Language Proficiency requirement for admission to our programs. You will be required to present a completion certificate from the English language school demonstrating successful achievement of the required level of study. The UCW Registrar's office may contact the school to verify your results.

  • EC Canada - General English B2 level with a minimum 80% and successful completion of the Academic Techniques in Practice course
  • ELS Language Centers - ELS’ Masters Level 112 program with a minimum CGPA of 2.0 (79-82%).
  • Global Village - Global Village (GV) English level 7 with a minimum 80% and successful completion of the EAP Program
  • ICEAP -
    • For admission to the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Commerce: Bridge Course Level 8 with a minimum 70% average and no individual skill/core mark less than 65%.
    • For admission to the Masters of Business Administration or MBA Foundation courses: Pre-MBA course with a minimum 70% average
  • inlingua – University Preparation Course with a minimum 80% over 3 terms
  • ILAC: Academy and International College- University Pathway III, level 3.2 at a minimum 75% on course work and an iBT 90 on final test
  • ILSC - University Pathway Program A2 with a minimum 70%
  • St George International College (SGIC)- University and College Pathway Program with a minimum 70% final exit test
  • Western Town College - University Pathway Program (4 modules) with a minimum 75%
  • Kaplan - University Foundation Course or Advanced (C1) General English with a minimum of 70% on the exit test and the EAP half day class
  • The Language Gallery (TLG) - Academic English Level 6 (C1) with a minimum of 80% in course work
  • Oxford International Education Group (DBA Eurocentres Canada) - UCW will recognize students of Eurocentres Canada who have successfully completed Pathway II, Level 8, with a minimum exit grade of 80%
Scholarships

University Canada West (UCW) entrance awards, scholarships and grants are available to new students applying to a UCW undergraduate or graduate program. You must apply by the Entrance Award Application Deadline which is at least 30 days before the start of your first term at UCW.

Americas Bursary

The Americas Bursary is offered by special arrangement and is intended to provide tuition support for prospective students from North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean. This bursary is intended to make Canadian education more accessible for these students.

University Canada West Founder’s Scholarship

UCW offers up to 20 Founder’s Scholarships to full-time students entering undergraduate degree programs. The Founder’s Scholarship is a tuition award. Recipients are responsible for paying regular student fees and purchasing textbooks.

International Student Leaders Award

This award is for international students (excluding those from the USA), who are dedicated to improving their home country’s economic development.

Scholarships for Academic Excellence

These scholarships are for international and domestic students with excellent academic grades, who wish to go on to excel in their chosen field of study and work.

MBA Foundation Study Grant

This grant is for international and domestic students, who demonstrate leadership potential and commitment to their chosen field of endeavour.

The Emily Baker Scholarship
Applicable Programs: MBA.

This scholarship is for First Nations students, who are dedicated to pursuing and fulfilling their higher education and business goals.

Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Regional Grant

This entrance grant is offered by special arrangement and is intended to provide tuition support for international students from CIS countries, who wish to pursue educational opportunities outside of the CIS. A limited number of Commonwealth of Independent States Regional Grants will be awarded each term to new applicants for admission.

Southeast Asia (SEA) Regional Grant

This entrance grant is offered by special arrangement and is intended to provide tuition support for entering students who wish to pursue educational opportunities outside of the SEA region. Special Targeted Regional Award Program

Canada 150 Tuition Concession for the Armed Forces

The Canada 150 Tuition Concession for the Canadian Armed Forces program is available to all active members, reservists and veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces, who will receive a 30% lower tuition rate in recognition of their service to this Country.

Live Our Vision of Education (L.O.V.E.) Canada Undergraduate Scholarship
Open to: Entering undergraduate students who are pursuing an Associate of ArtsBachelor of Commerce, or Bachelor of Arts in Business Communication. Start your studies with a scholarship at UCW before the end of the fall (October) 2021 term.

MBA Excellence Scholarship for Continuing Students
Applicable Programs: MBA

UCW will award a limited number of MBA Excellence Scholarships each term to current MBA students who have completed MBA degree Tier 2 courses (MBA level courses numbered 600 and higher) equivalent to at least 27 credits.
