Located in Alberta, Canada, the University of Lethbridge welcomes more than 8,700 undergraduate and graduate students from around the world to its campuses in Lethbridge and Calgary each year.

The university's motto, Fiat Lux (let there be light), refers to the illumination that comes from research and learning. Both undergraduate and graduate students work alongside accomplished researchers in a highly supportive and multidisciplinary environment that is grounded in liberal education.

uLethbridge is the only university in Alberta to offer arts and science co-op work experiences for every major at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The university is renowned in Canada for its education program (with 27 weeks of practicum experience), addictions counselling program and significant art collection. The digital audio arts major is the most comprehensive degree program of its kind in Western Canada.

Spanning 500 acres, the picturesque Lethbridge Campus is noted for its signature building, University Hall, which was designed by renowned Canadian architect, Arthur Erickson.

In 2017, the U of L celebrated its 50th anniversary. In 2018, the University of Lethbridge launched SHINE: The Campaign for the University of Lethbridge, the largest campaign in the University's history. The Campaign goals are twofold: to significantly increase engagement opportunities for alumni and community members, and to raise $100 million to propel the entire region forward.

English Language Requirements

English is the primary language of instruction and communication at the University of Lethbridge. Prior to registration, all applicants to the School of Graduate Studies must demonstrate English Language Proficiency (ELP) sufficient to meet the demands of classroom instruction, written assignments, research, and participation in tutorials and discussions, regardless of their citizenship status or country of origin.

The ELP requirement must be met prior to registration in a graduate program (see Graduate Conditional English Proficiency Admission, below). The University reserves the right to use discretion in determining adequate levels of language proficiency to ensure success in academic programs. In all cases, the decision of the School of Graduate Studies shall be final.

Required Documentation All proof of English proficiency must be provided on official academic transcripts or standardized test score reports. Standardized test scores must be valid and verifiable.
English Language Proficiency Requirement ELP may be demonstrated through successful completion of a baccalaureate or master's degree at a recognized institution in Canada or another country where English is recognized as the primary language (see Recognized Countries, below). The student's work must have been in English.
OR
ELP may be demonstrated by any of the following within two years of applying to the University:
1. Successful completion of a baccalaureate or master's degree at a recognized institution where the language of instruction is English. See www.uleth.ca/ross/admissions/elp_exempt_sgs for a list of recognized institutions. Other institutions will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The student's work must be in English.
2. Successful completion of the Advanced Level of the University of Lethbridge English for Academic Purposes (EAP) program.

4. Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test, taken within the last two years, with a minimum overall score of 6.5, and a minimum score of 6.0 in each band.Website: www.ielts.org

Scholarships

To apply for awards you can submit an application through the Bridge, award application opens mid-January each year.

A wide range of awards and bursaries are available to students who pursue their education at the University of Lethbridge. Some awards are granted based primarily on academic proficiency however other criteria (e.g. financial need, leadership potential, community involvement, artistic ability, athletic skill) may also be considered.

You are eligible for awards if you are:

a student entering the University from high school; or
a student entering the University from another post-secondary institution; or
a student continuing studies at the UofL

Click on 'student' and then on "Apply for uLethbridge Scholarships, Awards and Bursaries". Make sure to fill out the General, Undergraduate and any other awards application presented to you. The Scholarships and Student Finance office will review the applications and select eligible candidates. Recipients will be notified by our office.
